The study of leaves veins architecture and their evolution, is a crucial point to understand the fluid dynamics involved into the vascular tissues. Recent studies have shown that this architecture can limit the performance of photosynthesis through its effect on hydraulic system, in fact, according to many authors, it is directly connected with the density of network. The aim of the work was to highlight the role of image analysis to study the leaves vein network in different cultivars of Vitis vinifera (L.). The preliminary data shows a significant difference between the vein network densities in mature leaves, though this difference was not clear in the young samples. The use of this method of investigation can be a valuable tool to expand knowledge regarding the anatomy and physiology of the vascular system in vine leaves.
