Rice seed production: certification in field from 1979 to 2012. Rice seed production is subjected to certification, to ensure stadard required by legislation and to ensure an high level of quality to the consumer. In order to analise the evolution of rice varieties, we elaborate data of field certification from 1979 to 2012. Since 1979, 319 varieties were certified, on average area of 12.628 ha/year; the 30% of rice seed production area is cultivated with the following varieties: Balilla, Arborio, Lido, Thaibonnet and Loto. In the last years imidazolinone-tolerant varieties are spreading (ClearfieldTM technology): in 2012 about the 25% of certified surface was represented by this group.
